On March 12, 2020, just an hour before the scheduled opening, the Art Department teachers and Art Honor Society students worked feverishly to get the annual district-wide art show, ARTRAGEOUS, ready for the public. That was when principal Deborah Luffy had to break the sad news: by order of the Governor, all large gatherings were prohibited due to the spread of the coronavirus that caused COVID-19. A year later, in March of 2021, it was determined that this kind of event was still too risky and Artrageous was again cancelled. The pandemic-related cancellations mark the only times over a more than 40 year history that the district-wide art show (under various titles over the years) was shuttered. We were pleased to bring Artrageous back to the community in 2022!
The SASD Art Department faculty proudly and thankfully presented ARTRAGEOUS at SASHS on March 10, 2022, back after a 2-year pandemic-related hiatus. The free event was, as always, open to the public and featured the best art from all district schools as well as kids' activities, art demonstrations, live music (provided by members of SASHS's own COFFEE HOUSE CLUB) and much more! It was a fantastic success and a great sign of things becoming more normal!
