exploring Radial design
Both fourth and fifth grade students have been learning about radial design. Fourth grade students created radial design snowflakes collaged on top of colorful watercolor paintings. Fifth grade students used rulers, paper and colored pencils to create a design with radial symmetry.
Inspired by famous artist
Fourth and fifth grade students have been busy studying the artworks of famous artists. Below are fourth grade artworks inspired by the artist Pablo Picasso. Fifth grade learned about Marc Chagall and created an artwork inspired by his painting "I and the Village."
PBIS Poster contest
Students at SAIS were given the opportunity to create a poster for the annual PBIS Poster Contest. The posters represent the Greyhound Goals of our school: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. Below are some examples of the art that was submitted.
Winterfest Art Show
Wire figure sculptures, Picasso inspired portraits, busy cityscapes, radial design snowflakes, and so much more was on display at the 2015 SAIS open house.
Exploring Clay
Fourth and fifth grade students have spent the past several weeks learning about and exploring clay. Students learned how to roll slabs, make coils, attach two pieces of clay, and properly use a variety of tools. Fourth grade made clay owls embellished with textures and patterns. Fifth grade learned about Ancient Egypt and created cartouches by incising hieroglyphs into the clay.
Fourth Grade Fall Landscapes
Fourth grade students created stunning fall landscapes using oil and chalk pastels. Artist Vincent Van Gogh and his mark making techniques served as inspiration.
Birds-Eye View Cityscapes
Using one-point perspective, students learned to draw skyscrapers with a view from above.
