Chris Martin
Department chairperson
Chris Martin has been an art teacher in the SASD since 1997 and an instructor at the high school since 1998. He received a Master of Science Degree in Educational Development and Strategies from Wilkes University, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Drawing from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Martin teaches Design, Drawing, Media Arts, AP Art History, Horror In Literature and Film, Advanced Design, 3-D Design, Digital Graphic Design, and (occasionally) Ceramics.
In addition to his art classes, Mr. Martin is the SASD Art Department's Chairperson and a member of the Greyhound Foundation's Board of Trustees and Arts Committee. He advises several clubs, including the Photography Club, the Student Activism Club, the SASHS Coffee House Club, and Horror High, the SASHS horror movie viewing, discussion, and blogging club
In 2019, he received the Shippensburg Area School District's Contribution to Excellence Award. 2012, he was nominated for the WGAL/Rotary Teacher Impact Award which honors excellence among Susquehanna Valley educators.
Outside of school, Mr. Martin is a freelance graphic designer and artist, works in set design for amateur stage productions, and conducts camps and workshops in children’s art. To relax, he plays guitar badly and enjoys fishing when he gets the chance. He and his wife have two children.
