Design students reach out
May 22, 2013
During the 2012/2013 school year, artists in Mr. Martin's Digital Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing classes worked with several area businesses, personalities, and organizations to assist in the their branding process. The results of the collaborations were new logos and other branded products and a better understanding of the designer/client relationship.
Carlisle preschool, The Creative Pre-K and K; radio talk show host, Rick Smith; the Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce; the SASHS Class of 1978; and arts center, The Thought Lot all participated in the project. 21 students worked to create new branding from design briefs generated through communication with the clients.
Several students contributed designs which will be used in a variety of applications, including Sara Jansson's logo for the Creative Pre-K and K, Kayleigh Reid's program design for the Class of 1978, and Maddy Gardner's logo that will be used on special promotional materials for The Thought Lot.
The Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce selected two logos by senior Lydia Wagner. Her logo for the75th Anniversary of the Chamber was selected for use in special promotions this year, and the Chamber requested a modified version which is planned for use as Chamber's visual identity for years to come. A certificate and cash award were presented to Wagner (in absentia) at the Awards and Honors Presentation on May 21 by Chamber President Dr. Ronald Taylor.
“To have a school/community partnership like this is not only a great opportunity for me, as a business owner, but also for your students. This partnership will help them so much when it comes time to embark on the job market,” said Creative Pre-K and K owner Pam Fowler in a written statement.
