Mr. Martin's 3-D Design: Overview
What is 3-D Design?
ART215 Three-Dimensional Design is a .50 credit course open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have had either Introduction to Drawing or Introduction to Design. Three-dimensional Design students investigate both the expressive nature of the sculptor and the logistical concerns of the engineer through the creation of 3-D objects. Students will develop an understanding of the relationship between space and object, while considering the role each plays in shaping the other. Students will create work in a variety of materials such as wood, paper and clay.
Who am I?
My name is Chris Martin, and I've been an art teacher with the district for 17+ years. You can see my Linked In profile here and visit our district art department website here.
A folder is required
Students will often have homework. It may be in the form of some sketches in the sketchbook/journal, or it may be work on the class Edmodo page (more on Edmodo below). They may have to write for class, read an article, or watch a video.
Edmodo: required student participation
Edmodo is a social media site for school. Click here for a video introducing Edmodo. .
Grades are determined by 15% sketchbook/journal work, 15% class participation, and 70% projects and tests/quizzes.
Please be aware that you can access your child's grades through SunGuard. Please contact the guidance office at the high school if you don't know how to set up SunGuard access.
Contact me:
As I cannot answer phone calls during the school day, the best way to contact me is through email. When sending an email, please put your child's name in the subject line; I don't open unfamiliar emails unless I know that they are safe. I will try to respond to all emails within 24 hours.

A folder is required
- Students are required to purchase an inexpensive folder like this (link is for information only. It shows a pack of 25, they only need 1) to use as their sketchbooks.
- The folder can be paper or plastic, and costs anywhere from 25 cents to $2, depending on the type and where they are purchased.
- Please do not purchase regular sketchbooks or three-ring binders for this class.
- These folders must have two pockets for classroom handouts and the metal tab fasteners so that three-hole punched sketches can be bound into the book.
- A supply of paper for student sketchbooks is available free to all students in my classroom.

- We have no book, so there will be out-of-class videos, activities and readings that he must do on Edmodo. It would not be inappropriate for him to log in and check Edmodo every evening.
- For those who cannot log in at home, Edmodo access is available students at school, during regular classtime if necessary; each student may also access the Edmodo site during FLEX period, almost always at least once a week.
- Students will be given, whenever possible, at least three days to complete an Edmodo activity/assignment.
- Parents, too can have access to our class Edmodo page. I am going to invite parents to the Edmodo group, so please look for an invitation in your email within a few days. Of course, your participation is not required, nor is it expected; I merely make this available to you as a resource.
